The Marecchia and Conca valleys

Lands of authentic hospitality…one look away from the seaside

These are the lands shielding the Riviera Romagnola from winds, a collection of small villages perched on summits, with castles and towers facing each other on either side of the valleys of the Marecchia and Conca rivers, amidst fields and vineyards.

Harsh and gentle lands, where the elements of the landscape have endless sides to them: where the sea appears on the horizon, simply turning around a corner, where villages lean on hills, guarding treasures and where–amidst woods–remains of towers and castles are still visible; at times forgotten but easy to retrace in place names.

Names which recall the coming and going of populations, in search of lands to settle in: Umbri, Etruscans, Gauls, Romans, Byzantines, Longobards, who made way for great families: Malatesta, Montefeltro, Medici.

Lands of unspoiled nature and gentle lines, producing wheat, olive oil, wine, cheese, chestnuts, and truffles.

Lands of silence and the poetry, of those who passed through, or those who remained–Dante, San Francesco, Ezra Pound, Tonino Guerra. Lands of theaters, festivals, fairs, and events enliven this territory all-year-round.
